BMSPA 2026: 12 developers inducted into Hall of Fame, 36 properties honoured

KUALA LUMPUR (July 21): The 10th edition of The Edge Malaysia Best Managed & Sustainable Property Awards (BMSPA) on Monday saw the induction of 12 developers into The Edge Malaysia Responsible Developer Hall of Fame 2026.

These inductees are all past winners of The Edge Malaysia Responsible Developer Award under BMSPA over the last decade.

They are: AME Development Sdn Bhd (2018), BRDB Developments Sdn Bhd (2026), Eco World Development Group Bhd (KL:ECOWLD) (2021), Gamuda Land (2020), Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd (KL:MATRIX) (2021), OSK Property Holdings Bhd (2026), Paramount Property Development Sdn Bhd (2026), ParkCity Group (2019), Sime Darby Property Bhd (KL:SIMEPROP) (2021), S P Setia Bhd (KL:SPSETIA) (2018), Sunway Property (Sunway Bhd) (KL:SUNWAY) (2019) and Tanah Sutera Development Sdn Bhd (2020).

The accolade recognises developers who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to long-term value, measured by how well their developments perform and serve their communities over time.

This year's BMSPA also saw the introduction of The Exemplary Contribution to Management Corporations Award, which was presented to Khaw Chay Tee and Datuk Angie Ng. The award honours individuals whose efforts have elevated the standards of property management, maintenance and community living within a development.

Founded in 2017, BMSPA celebrates developers and property managers who excel in building, managing and maintaining real estate properties. 

“We conceived the awards on this simple belief: The handing over of keys to a property is not the end of the journey to owning one. It is only the start, as a building can remain in good and sustainable condition only if it is well managed. We wanted to debunk the idea that property management is often seen as an afterthought,” said The Edge Malaysia publisher and group CEO Datuk Ho Kay Tat during his welcome speech at the awards’ gala dinner held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

He said property management is becoming increasingly essential for protecting asset values, maintaining sustainability and building communities, adding that the awards highlight the joint efforts of management teams, residents and owners.

Minister of Federal Territories Hannah Yeoh, the event's guest of honour, stressed that good property management extends far beyond the management office.

“Good property management does not begin at a maintenance office; it begins when the first [project planning] decision is made," she said. "Every design choice carries a future maintenance cost. Every short part will eventually be paid for by the residents, the management body or the developer."

She added that a high architecture rating means little if the residents inside feel unsafe or forgotten. “My challenge to the industry tonight is simple: Do not build only for the day of completion. Build for the 10th year, manage for the 20th and think about the generation that will inherit what we create today,” she urged.

52 shortlisted submissions

The awards received a record 70 submissions this year, 52 of which were shortlisted.

The BMSPA spans 11 main categories, covering residential, office, mixed development, retail, specialised and repurposed properties. Each category is subdivided into two age segments: Below 10 Years, and 10 Years and Above.

In addition to The Edge Malaysia’s Responsible Developer Award, the event's other anchor awards are: Editor’s Choice Awards and The Edge Malaysia-ILAM Sustainable Landscape Awards.

A total of 36 properties were honoured at this year's BMSPA, comprising 16 gold, 13 silver, three bronze and four special mention winners.

Editor's Choice and Gold winners

Properties receiving the Editor’s Choice Awards this year include: Residensi Sofiya for Excellence in Affordable Homes Management; Mitsui Serviced Suites Bukit Bintang City Centre for Excellence in Serviced Suites Management; Sunway Putra for Excellence in Integrated Development Management; Wisma CIMB for Excellence in Corporate Office Transformation & Management; Axis Aerotech Centre for Excellence in Aerotech Industrial Facility Management; Setia Fontaines Heritage Park for Excellence in People-centred Landscape Design; and Wetlands Arboretum for Excellence in Wetland Conservation and Education.

The Editor’s Choice winners also won gold in their respective main categories: Residensi Sofiya (Below 10 Years — Sustainable Affordable Housing); Mitsui Serviced Suites Bukit Bintang City Centre (Below 10 Years — Single-owned Residential); Wisma CIMB (10 Years and Above — Non-strata Office); Sunway Putra (10 Years and above Mixed Development (Entire)) and Axis Aerotech Centre (Below 10 Years — Specialised Categories).

As for Setia Fontaines Heritage Park and the Wetlands Arboretum, both bagged gold in The Edge Malaysia-ILAM Sustainable Landscape Awards 2026 under the Landscape Design category.

Judges for this year’s awards were: The Edge Malaysia editor emeritus and the awards’ chief judge Au Foong Yee, City & Country senior editor E Jacqui Chan, Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) Malaysia president Datuk Ho Hon Sang, Sustainability and Climate Risk certified professional Datuk NK Tong, Singapore Association of Property and Facility Managers (APFM) president Lim Lan Yuan, Malaysian REIT Managers Association (MRMA) vice-chairman Zuhairy Md Isa, Architect Centre Sdn Bhd accredited architect Anthony Lee Tee, Chur Associates founder and managing director Chris Tan, Building Management Association of Malaysia (BMAM) committee member Richard Chan, Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) president Nor Atiah Ismail and Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers (MIPFM) president Ishak Ismail.

This year’s awards were supported by the APFM, Architect Centre, BMAM, EdgeProp Malaysia, ILAM, MRMA, Rehda and MIPFM. The results were audited by Deloitte Malaysia.
