Battersea Power Station expands 'A Station of Stories' with summer literary programme

PETALING JAYA (Aug 3): Battersea Power Station in London has unveiled a summer programme of literary-themed events, performances and workshops as part of its year-long 'A Station of Stories' campaign.

It said in a press statement on Wednesday (July 29) that the programme includes activities for families, teenagers and adult readers during the school holidays, with events running through August to mid-September.

Mr. Men Little Miss marks 55th anniversary

The centrepiece of the summer programme is a month-long Mr. Men Little Miss takeover from Aug 3–30, delivered in partnership with Sanrio to celebrate the franchise's 55th anniversary.

The celebrations commemorate the publication of the first book in the series, Mr. Tickle, on Aug 10, 1971.

Visitors can take part in a free interactive birthday-themed trail throughout the Power Station, using a map to locate hidden characters and unlock downloadable gifts.

From Aug 8–10, ticketed arts and crafts workshops will offer activities including creating bag charms, wooden characters and door plaques, alongside interactive storytelling sessions. Morning sessions will include dedicated SEND-friendly programmes, while Mr. Tickle is scheduled to make character appearances on Aug 8 and 9.

Retailers within the Power Station are also participating in the anniversary celebrations. Waterstones will offer free colouring activities in-store and dedicate selected Sunday storytelling sessions in August to Mr. Men Little Miss books. Moleskine will host free bookmark-colouring sessions for children, while The Cinema in The Power Station will screen classic Mr. Men Little Miss episodes from Tuesday to Saturday throughout August, with tickets priced at £3.

Author event and theatre programme

For older audiences, Battersea Power Station will host 'A Station of Stories: In Conversation with Young Adult Authors' on Aug 23, featuring a live panel discussion, interactive writing workshop and audience Q&A aimed at teenagers and young readers.

Elsewhere, Arches Lane Theatre will stage a new adaptation of Treasure Island from July 30–Aug 16, with three actors performing all 12 characters from Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel.

At NEON, Horrible Histories will take over Ramses & the Pharaoh's Gold: The Exhibition from July 27–Aug 30, with interactive tours, live performances and family activities centred on ancient Egypt.

Waterstones will also continue its monthly book club and author events during the summer, while Moleskine will host a free "Love Letters to Books" scrapbooking workshop on Aug 18.

celebrASIA adds literary programme

Looking ahead, Battersea Power Station's annual celebrASIA festival returns from Sept 11–13, celebrating South East Asian culture through food, music, arts and cultural performances.

New for 2026 is a series of literature and culture panel discussions at Arches Lane Theatre. The opening session, "Telling Stories: Fact & Fiction", will feature authors Khairani Barokka, author of Annah, Infinite, and Ivy Ngeow, author of The American Boyfriend, discussing how storytelling can explore identity, heritage and difficult social issues.

The panel forms part of the wider 'A Station of Stories' campaign, which celebrates books, creativity and storytelling across the riverside destination throughout the year.

Mixed-use regeneration destination

Battersea Power Station forms the centrepiece of a 42-acre regeneration project along a 450m stretch of the River Thames.

Since opening to the public in October 2022, the Grade II* listed building has welcomed more than 40 million visitors. The wider estate now includes more than 170 shops, bars, restaurants and leisure venues, with over 3,000 residents and more than 7,500 people working across the development.

The destination is also served by its own Uber Boat by Thames Clippers pier and the Zone 1 Battersea Power Station Underground station on London's Northern Line.
