217 Kampung Valdor landowners receive approval letters for 99-year leasehold extension

PETALING JAYA (Aug 5): A total of 217 landowners in Kampung Valdor, Penang have received temporary land title approval letters for the extension of their leasehold tenure to 99 years, according to state news portal Buletin Mutiara.

The approval letters were presented during a ceremony on Sunday (Aug 2) at SJKC Kampung Valdor (Jalan 6, Kampung Valdor, 14200 Sungai Bakap, in the Seberang Perai Selatan district of Penang) attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Penang Trade and National Unity Committee chairman Goh Choon Aik, who is also the Bukit Tambun assemblyman.

According to Chow, the 99-year leasehold extension will provide greater legal certainty over land ownership while enhancing property values, facilitating inheritance and estate planning, and creating opportunities for more sustainable and better-planned development in the village.

He said the handover of the approval letters reflected the Penang government's continued commitment to strengthening land ownership security and improving residents' quality of life in line with the Penang2030 vision.

Chow said the milestone followed a dialogue session with Kampung Valdor residents on Jan 12, 2025, during which the state government explained its policy on extending leasehold land tenure to 99 years, including premium discount incentives available under the initiative.

He added that dedicated service counters were subsequently opened at the Kampung Valdor multipurpose hall in May and June 2025 to assist residents with their applications.

According to Chow, close collaboration between the Batu Kawan parliamentary service centre, the Bukit Tambun state constituency service centre and the South Seberang Perai District Land and Mines Office helped streamline the application process by guiding residents through each stage of their applications, simplifying procedures and accelerating approvals.
