IHG, KCC Holdings Group sign agreement to open 107-room voco Muar

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): Hospitality group IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a hotel management agreement with KCC Hotel (Muar) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of KCC Holdings Group, to open voco Muar, according to a press statement issued on Aug 6.

The 10-storey, 107-room property marks IHG’s debut in the Johor riverside town and introduces the first international-branded hotel to the destination. The room rates are still being finalised.

Located within KCC City Business Park, the hotel is in advanced stages of construction, with interior design works underway, ahead of its scheduled opening later this year.

IHG South East Asia & Korea managing director Vivek Bhalla said: "The signing of voco Muar marks an important step in our strategy to expand into Malaysia’s high-growth secondary and tertiary markets.

"As travel demand continues to broaden beyond primary gateway cities, we see strong opportunities in destinations such as Muar where a rich cultural heritage, growing economic activity and leisure attractions come together to create a vibrant destination."

Located a 40-minute drive from Melaka, voco Muar will feature food and beverage outlets, function and meeting spaces, an infinity pool, a gym, and a grand ballroom.

The property marks IHG’s second voco hotel in Malaysia, following the brand’s debut in Kuching in June.

KCC Hotel (Muar) Sdn Bhd executive director Ker Soon Yong said: "Located within our KCC City Business Park, [voco Muar] will play an important role in elevating the local hospitality offering and supporting both business and leisure travel.

"We believe this is the right time to introduce a hotel that offers world-class hospitality. while embracing the unique charm and character of Muar."

In Malaysia, IHG has 13 open hotels and eight in the pipeline, including the upcoming market debut of Regent and Vignette Collection.
