PETALING JAYA (Aug 11): OMRON Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which is scheduled to be transferred to Aratas Corporation and renamed Aratas Components Malaysia Sdn Bhd, plans to invest about ¥10 billion (RM259 million) to relocate and expand its Malaysian manufacturing operations to COMPASS @ Kota Seri Langat in Banting, Selangor.

The company has entered into a sale and purchase agreement to acquire a 17-acre site at the managed industrial park, located near the West Coast Expressway, according to COMPASS IP Sdn Bhd in a press release today.

Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026, subject to the necessary approvals. The facility is expected to be completed and commence operations by the end of 2027.

According to the company, the relocation and expansion will increase the Malaysian factory's production capacity to about 1.5 times its current level, primarily to serve growing demand in India and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The facility will manufacture relays, sockets and other electronic components.

The company said the new facility is expected to become a strategic manufacturing hub accounting for more than 10% of the former OMRON Device & Module Solutions business' global production capacity.

COMPASS IP director Datuk Stewart LaBrooy said the project reflects growing demand among multinational manufacturers for purpose-built industrial infrastructure.

"What sets COMPASS apart is the marriage of sustainability and functionality. As Selangor's first green-rated managed industrial park, we provide multinationals with the infrastructure resilience, connectivity and ESG-aligned environment they need to future-proof their supply chains. For Aratas, this facility is not merely an expansion; it is a strategic investment enabled by a park purpose-built to support advanced manufacturing at scale," he said in the statement.

COMPASS @ Kota Seri Langat is a 220-acre freehold industrial development involving Permodalan Nasional Bhd, KWEST Group and AREA Group. The development, comprising the COMPASS Industrial & Logistics Hub and the Compass SME Precinct, offers ready-built factory units ranging from 3,600 sq ft to 50,000 sq ft.
