PETALING JAYA (Aug 18): The Federal Kuala Lumpur has reopened following a refurbishment, with 150 renovated guestrooms as well as upgraded social and retail spaces.

Located along Jalan Bukit Bintang in KL city centre, the hotel first opened in August 1957, shortly before Merdeka, and is described by its operator as Malaysia’s first international-class hotel.

In a statement on Tuesday (Aug 18), the hotel said the redesigned rooms and suites feature warm neutral tones, contemporary furnishings and natural daylight, with selected rooms offering views of Jalan Bukit Bintang and the KL skyline.

The refurbishment draws on local arts, culture and craftsmanship, with updated in-room features including a mini pantry.

The hotel said it has retained elements of the building’s original architectural character while updating its facilities and amenities. Its facade has been incorporated into the new design, while the entrance porte cochere features a retrofitted canopy grid with warm globe lights. The hotel’s original white marble lion statues have also been retained at the entrance.

The hotel added that sustainability measures have been incorporated into the guest experience as part of its approach to responsible travel, without providing further details.

To mark the reopening, The Federal KL is offering a Rediscover Federal Package from RM368 net per night, inclusive of buffet breakfast, for Malaysian residents. The package is valid for stays until Nov 30.

“As Malaysia celebrates Visit Malaysia 2026, the reopening of The Federal KL is especially meaningful. A familiar place for many, we are inviting guests back into a living story, one that reflects our storied past while welcoming a new generation,” said The Federal KL operations manager Jenny Aw.
