KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 26): IJM Corp Bhd (KL:IJM) has appointed industry veteran Datuk Lee Teck Yuen (pictured) as chairman of the construction and infrastructure giant effective Aug 27.
Lee, 69, had been on IJM’s board since May 2007, including as its senior non-executive director from 2012 to 2022. He is succeeding Tan Sri Krishnan Tan following his retirement from the board as part of what the company said was a long-planned leadership transition.
“His appointment provides continuity in board leadership as IJM continues to execute its strategic priorities and build on the strong foundations established over the years,” IJM said.
Trained as a civil engineer, Lee brings more than 40 years of experience in the local and international property industry, according to IJM’s annual report. He is also on the board of subsidiaries IJM Land Bhd and Road Builder (M) Holdings Bhd.
Tan, meanwhile, had earlier indicated that his current term on the board would be his last and he declined to seek re-election at the annual general meeting that will be held on Aug 27. The company also thanked him for his long service since Aug 29, 2019, as chairman.
Tan, 73, first joined IJM’s board on June 12, 1984, as an alternate director and went on to hold various senior positions within IJM, including financial controller, director, deputy managing director, group managing director, CEO and deputy chairman.
In his emotional farewell statement to shareholders, Tan said his final year as chairman was marked by two significant developments — Sunway Bhd’s (KL:SUNWAY) takeover attempt for IJM and the subsequent allegations surrounding the exercise.
The conditional voluntary takeover offer by Sunway, announced in January 2026, failed after the company did not secure acceptances for more than 50% of IJM’s shares. Both Tan and IJM were also cleared of all corruption allegations.
