PETALING JAYA (Sept 11): The Malaysia Shopping Malls Association (PPK Malaysia) has conferred Legacy Awards on its board of advisers in recognition of their contributions to the country’s shopping mall industry.

In a recent press release, PPK Malaysia described the Legacy Awards as its highest recognition for industry pioneers and veterans who have contributed to the development of Malaysia’s shopping mall sector.

The recipients were RCMC Sdn Bhd consultant director Richard Chan, MKH Bhd group managing director Tan Sri Eddy Chen, 1 Utama City Group executive chairman Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok, former Sunway Malls managing director Datuk Ngeow Voon Yean, Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn Bhd retail CEO Datuk Joyce Yap, and Sunway Malls group managing director HC Chan.

PPK Malaysia said the awards recognised contributions in areas including industry leadership, innovation, talent development and advocacy, as well as efforts to raise the profile of Malaysian shopping malls regionally and internationally.

“The Legacy Awards are not only a tribute to past achievements but also a beacon of inspiration for future generations. They affirm the enduring role of shopping malls in Malaysia’s socio-economic development, highlighting a legacy of vision, resilience, and excellence that continues to shape the nation’s retail and tourism landscape,” said the statement.

The awards were presented at the PPK Malaysia Awards gala dinner held in Petaling Jaya on Sept 1. Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) deputy minister Chiew Choon Man delivered a speech on behalf of Motac minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at the event.

In his speech, Tiong called for closer cooperation among the government, mall operators, retailers, hoteliers, travel agents and other stakeholders to strengthen Malaysia’s shopping-tourism ecosystem in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026.
