Sunway Construction named Company of the Year at The Edge BRC Awards

PETALING JAYA (Sept 24): Sunway Construction Group Bhd was named Company of the Year at The Edge Billion Ringgit Club (BRC) Awards 2026 on Wednesday (Sept 23) night.

Sunway Construction also won the construction sector’s highest return on equity (ROE) award and the award for best corporate responsibility initiative among companies with a market capitalisation below RM10 billion.

Sunway Bhd deputy president and Sunway Construction non-independent non-executive director Evan Cheah received the Company of the Year award from the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, at the ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.

The overall award is based on weighted scores for ROE, profit after tax and shareholder returns, together with corporate responsibility commitments. The BRC Awards results are independently audited by Deloitte Malaysia.

Sunway Construction group managing director Liew Kok Wing told The Edge that the company had worked hard towards the honour. He said it had won the sector’s highest ROE award for eight consecutive years and had hoped to sweep the construction category.

“We didn’t manage to do so this year, but I think we snagged a better one,” he said, referring to the Company of the Year award.

In his welcome address, The Edge Media Group chairman Tan Sri Tong Kooi Ong said Malaysia needs companies that succeed through competition and merit, rather than protection, privilege or connections.

“Performance should be recognised, merit should be rewarded, and success should be earned and celebrated,” he said.
