KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 7): The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) will start the construction of single-storey terraced homes under the Felda New Generation Housing programme in about one or two months, said chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, according to a Bernama report yesterday.

He said under the nationwide programme, 11,530 residential units with a gross development value of RM1 billion were planned, but there was a delay owing to a “financing mechanism problem”.

"However, the issue was resolved as we opted for a private funding initiative via Putra Star Investment Holdings Pte Ltd.

"We have appointed Terranova Builders Sdn Bhd as the housing developer," Mohd Isa told a press conference after the signing of an agreement between Putra Star, Terranova and Perumahan Felda Sdn Bhd to facilitate the construction of the homes here yesterday.

He said Perumahan Felda had identified suitable locations and the three parties are in the midst of obtaining approval from the local authorities, reported Bernama .

The Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) would be employed to ensure each project is completed within one year of its commencement, said Mohd Isa.

"As soon as we get the necessary approvals, we will begin earthworks and commence construction using the IBS system," he said, adding that the houses were priced from RM70,000 onwards.

Meanwhile, as for the third phase of Felda Investment Corp's property development in Wembley, the UK, Mohd Isa said it was still under discussions. The proposed project involved the construction of a hotel, apartment units and office space.
