Najib RazakKUALA LUMPUR (Sept 15): The MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line will be completed on time with no additional cost to be incurred, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pictured) said today, Bernama reported.

The MRT-SBK line, which will be 51km long, is being built at a cost of RM23 billion and is now 89% completed.

“The first MRT line (SBK line) is right on schedule and will be delivered with no additional cost,” the prime minister said at the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line ground-breaking ceremony here, today.

The first phase of the metro line between Sungai Semantan and Sungai Buloh is expected to commence operations in December, while the remaining line to Kajang will be ready by July next year, Bernama reported.

As for the MRT SSP extension, Najib said the 52.2km line (costing RM32 billion) is expected to be fully operational by the second quarter of 2022.

He said the last station of the SSP line will be Putrajaya Sentral — it will allow commuters in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya to get to Kuala Lumpur in just 30 minutes.

Up to 58 train sets for each line will ply the SBK and SSP lines.

Najib also said during the event that the government is focused on modernising and transforming Malaysia's public transportation system, Bernama reported.

"We are taking decisive action to catch up on what was not done previously and remedy the shortcomings of our public transport ecosystem," he said.
