SEPANG (Oct 20): Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL), the operator of KLIA Express and Transit high-speed train services from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA and KLIA2), today unveiled its new KLIA Transit train at its Salak Tinggi depot.

Manufactured by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Company Ltd (CRRC Changchun), the new train is the first of six trains to be delivered. Once the delivery is completed, ERL's total capacity will increase by about 50% when they begin operations from March next year.

"As driving cars in the Klang Valley has become an increasingly costlier way to commute, we expect more people will opt for public transport services to commute within the city and to catch their flights," ERL executive chairman Tan Sri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh told reporters at the ceremony today.

"The increase in capacity also means congestion will be reduced especially during peak hours for both KLIA Express and Transit services," he added.

The six-train set — two KLIA Express units and four KLIA Transit units — is expected to increase the frequency of the train operations and enhance service availability, in addition to cater to the growth in ridership for the next 10 years. — theedgemarkets.com
