Maybank opens new headquarters at Menara Merdeka Maybank
Malayan Banking Bhd, Malaysia's largest bank by assets, officially opened its new headquarters at Menara Merdeka Maybank on Thursday in a ceremony officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The tower, formerly known as Merdeka 118, was renamed Menara Merdeka Maybank on July 28, according to a joint statement. Maybank occupies 33 of the tower's 118 floors and has relocated about 7,000 employees to the building, with its registered headquarters now located on Level 70. The relocation, which began in April, also includes subsidiaries such as Maybank Islamic Bhd and Maybank Investment Bank Bhd. Its former headquarters on Jalan Tun Perak has been renamed Menara Tun Perak, where the bank's Kuala Lumpur main branch continues to operate.
The opening cements Maybank's position as the anchor tenant at PNB's Merdeka 118 development, where the bank occupies 33 floors. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Maybank chairman Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa.

Magma Group launches RM850m Wolo Hotel and Residences in Mont Kiara
Magma Group Bhd officially launched its RM850 million Wolo Hotel and Residences in Mont Kiara on Friday, positioning the branded mixed-use project as the centrepiece of its plan to return to profitability this year. Speaking to The Edge, group managing director and chief executive Datuk Seri Thomas Liang said the development is central to Magma's turnaround strategy.
The 60-storey project, on a 2.26-acre site in Mukim Batu, comprises 378 serviced apartments, 98 serviced suites, a 63-room hotel and retail space. Wolo will lease and manage the serviced suites on behalf of investors to generate recurring rental income, while the hotel will operate under Design Hotels, part of Marriott Bonvoy, and the residences are endorsed by UK-based Global Branded Residences. Pre-launch marketing has attracted expressions of interest for about 60% of the residential units.
Magma expects the development to return the group to profitability in the financial year ending 2026. It reported a net loss of RM7.3 million on revenue of RM6.26 million for the first quarter ended March 31, attributing the result to higher staff costs and corporate expenses. GDB Holdings Bhd is the project's main contractor under a RM439.4 million contract. Construction is scheduled to begin in August, with completion targeted for December 2030.
