KUALA LUMPUR (April 5): The Sarawak portion for phase 1 of the Pan-Borneo Highway project is 14.76% complete as at end-March 2018, ahead of its schedule target of 12.78%, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

The Sarawak portion of the highway entails 11 work packages which has begun construction by phases beginning September 2016, with contract period of 39 to 51 months.

“All the packages are currently underway and are expected to be completed by June 2021,” said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin.

The cost for each package ranges between RM580 million and RM2.11 billion, she added.

Rosnah was answering a question from Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kuching) on the progress of the project.

Meanwhile, Chong also questioned the reason for the delay on works under a specific work package, which included the development of four flyovers along the highway in Kuching.

“Based on my observations, the pegs used for the marking of the construction sites are missing, after having been placed there for two years already. Why haven’t the construction of the flyovers begin?” Chong asked.

Rosnah responded saying that the ministry will provide the details of all work packages awarded, including the contract value and the construction progress. — theedgemarkets.com
