Jamaluddin Jarjis

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 13): The Syariah High Court here today allowed the Jamaluddin Jarjis’ (pictured) widow, Kalsom Ismail, and her four children (aged between 23 and 33) to intervene in his mother's faraid claim to the portion of the RM2.1 billion estate left by the deceased, reported the Malaysiakini news portal.

According to the report, Kalsom and her children had filed their faraid claim back in 2016 allegedly without Aminah Abdullah's, (Jamaluddin's mother) aged 84, knowledge.

The syariah court also granted leave (permission) for Kalsom her family to file a preliminary objection to Aminah's claim.

Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman appeared for Aminah, Shamsuriah Sulaiman acted for Kalsom while the children were represented by lawyer Zuri Zabuddin Budiman, reported Malaysiakini.

The court decision was made by registrar Siti Zulaikha Mansor in chambers.

Aminah listed landed properties as part of the estate of Jamaluddin in her petition. These properties include houses in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the US.

It was reported last month that Aminah has filed an application at the Syariah High Court in KL to obtain the faraid certificate on her son’s estate, estimated to be worth more than RM2 billion.

Aminah filed the application on March 2 this year in accordance with Section 46(ix) of the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) Act 1993.

The estates included 20 properties as well as Jamaluddin’s companies.

Jamaluddin, who was a former Malaysian Ambassador to the US, was killed on April 4, 2015 after the helicopter he was travelling in from Pekan, Pahang, enroute to Kuala Lumpur, crashed at Kampung Sungai Pening, SemenyihSelangor.

Also killed in the crash were the pilot Captain Clifford William Fournier, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak private secretary Datuk Seri Azlin Alias, businessman Datuk Tan Huat Seang, Jamaluddin’s personal aide Razakan Seran and a woman known as Aidana Baizieva.

According to the Malaysiakini report, Aminah was married to Jamaluddin's father before they were divorced in 1954. She raised Jamaluddin with two other siblings from a later marriage.
