PM says EAC not set up earlier as Pakatan was busy

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) said the government could have set up the Economic Action Council (EAC) earlier but Pakatan Harapan was busy dealing with legacy issues left over by the previous administration.

In response to comments by certain quarters, he said the EAC was not set up due to the underperformance of the ministers, but instead it was created as a channel for the government to listen to and address the people’s economic concerns.

“We could have set it up right after we won the [14th general] election but we were busy. We were preoccupied by the issues left by the previous government and the loans that they had taken and we have not had the time to consider the issues faced by the investors and others. Now we have the time.

“It is important that the government listens to the people and this is the role pf the EAC. Things will go wrong when the government does not listen to the people,” he told reporters at the Perdana Leadership Foundation yesterday.
