PETALING JAYA (Jan 6): The parents of Nora Anne Quoirin, the Irish-French teen who was found dead in Pantai, Seremban, Negri Sembilan, have filed a civil suit against the operator of a resort there for negligence, Free Malaysia Today reported on Saturday.

Sebastian Marie Philipe and Meabh Quoirin filed the suit against Helen Marion Todd, the operator of Dusun Resort in Pantai Hills where Nora went missing on Aug 4, 2019.

The family’s lawyer Sankara Nair said the case management will be on Jan 21 at the Seremban Sessions Court.

According to Bernama, The Dusun director Haanim Bamadhaj said that an official statement will be issued soon by the operator.

He said the resort was aware of the legal action before it was reported by the media when contacted yesterday.

"Yes, we are aware and we had received it earlier. However, I am so sorry I can't divulge details on when did we receive it ... and the resort's legal team is looking into the suit filed by Nora Anne's parents,” she said.

According to the Star, the Quoirins claimed that Todd had failed to keep the premises safe and secured, did not install and maintain a CCTV system in the premises, as well as did not secure and maintain the latch of a window in the rooms where the family stayed, among others.

The plaintiffs are claiming special damages in the sum of RM152,707.90, general damages assessed by the court, RM30,000 damages for bereavement, among others.

Nora was reported missing the morning after arriving at the resort. A window in the room that could only be opened from the inside was found opened. Her body was found 10 days after she went missing in a jungle 2.5km away from the resort.

A post-mortem revealed that she had died of gastrointestinal bleeding, probably from hunger and stress. Authorities said no foul play was involved.

Her father, Sebastien Quoirin, told an Irish paper that the results did not explain how Nora Anne, who had learning disabilities, could have ended up naked in the ravine.

Bernama also reported yesterday that Negeri Sembilan deputy police chief SAC Che Zakaria Othman said any individual is entitled to file a civil suit against any party deemed appropriate.

On the complete post-mortem report of Nora Anne, Che Zakaria said the police have yet to obtain the complete report.
