PETALING JAYA: The Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) has urged the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors’ Association (IFAWPCA) to produce a guide on “Construction for a Greener World” to help its members adopt green construction principles into their business.

The guide would provide members with the “green” advantage and allow them to work with IFAWPCA for a sustainable future for future generations, said MBAM’s president Datuk Ng Kee Leen in a statement dated April 20.  IFAWPCA has members from 15 countries.

Meanwhile, Ng led a delegation of 23 representatives to the 38th IFAWPCA Convention, which started on April 20 and ends on April 23, 2010 in Taipei, Taiwan.

The theme of this year’s convention is “Sustainable Development in the 21st Century”.

“MBAM hopes the IFAWPCA Convention will serve as an important platform for the exchange of ideas and forging bonds for the development of a clear path towards green construction initiatives,” said Ng.

The IFAWPCA Convention will help members enhance their knowledge on the ways to improve sustainability and be a superb event to exchange experience among the participants.

MBAM will share Malaysia’s initiative to promote the use of environmentally friendly methods of construction to help ensure sustainable development. These include the incentives provided by the Malaysian government until Dec 31, 2010, like import duty and sales exemption on solar photovoltaic system equipment for the usage by third parties and sales tax exemption on the purchase of solar heating system equipment from local manufacturers.
