KUALA LUMPUR:  Malaysia Property Inc (MPI) and several major Malaysian developers have formed a delegation to participate in Mipim Asia 2012 in Hong Kong.

The participating local developers are Sime Darby Property Bhd, Emkay Group and UEM Land Bhd.

Mipim Asia, to be held from Nov 7 to 9, is an annual Asia-Pacific property showcase incorporating expert-led conferences and investors networking sessions.

Some 70 investment companies have confirmed their participation. They include investment adviser Angelo Gordon Asia, real estate manager Axa Real Estate, private
equity firm CLSA Capital Partners, European asset manager IVG Immobilien and Hong Leong International (HK) Ltd.

MPI will coordinate and assist the participating developers in lining up speaking engagements, lunch meetings and networking with over 2,000 paid participants looking for deals for the three days. They will occupy the batik-inspired Malaysia Pavilion hosted by MPI.

“We want to increase international awareness of the immense selection of real estate investment opportunities available in Malaysia and MPI is looking to tap on the vast array of international property funds, solution providers and commercial operators attending the event,” said MPI CEO Kumar Tharmalingam.

“If the developers go on their own, they have no identity and will just be another developer from a country north of Singapore,” he said. “We provide identity and focus as a Malaysian ensemble in a foreign country.” This will be Malaysia’s second year participating in Mipim Asia.

Sime Darby Property is looking to showcase its partnership with S P Setia Bhd in the Battersea Power Station redevelopment project in London and the long-term strategic plan for its Vision Valley in Malaysia.

Emkay Group will present Cyberjaya as the number one IT cluster in Malaysia and also highlight the eco-tourism opportunities in the Belum rainforest in Perak through its Pulau Banding development.

UEM Land, with its significant presence in Iskandar Malaysia in Johor, will showcase its major projects such as the Mall of Medini, Puteri Harbour and Gerbang Nusajaya.

Mipim Asia features talks and conferences on the latest investment trends and development opportunities in the region, covering financing, infrastructure and sustainability.
