Fruits — especially durians — form the backbone of Balik Pulau’s tourism. Much of the land on the hills of this region were farms.

One of the first settlers of Balik Pulau were primarily comprised of the robust Hakkas, who toiled on the hillside estates dotting the area.

According to Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics founder Datuk Joey Yap, although the Earth element symbolises sluggishness, it also means it is a good time to be prudent and analytical as well as to seize opportunities to accumulate wealth through investments.

“This is a labour of love that I believe will contribute towards sustainable ecotourism, conservation, education and research. ‘Rumah Lat’ is not about my legacy, but instead is about capturing and preserving the traditional Malay kampung way of life as I knew it.”
