PETALING JAYA (March 18): The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will be tabling its findings on the marina projects totalling RM323.5 million. The projects caught the attention of the PAC when they were cited in the Auditor-General’s Report 2017, under the Eighth and Ninth Malaysia Plans.

They became a controversial issue when it was discovered that at least 11 of the marina projects have become white elephants.

“The PAC will be tabling its findings and recommendations over these public marina projects.

“The report touches on Transport, Public Works and Economic Affairs ministries,” PAC deputy chairman Wong Kah Woh was quoted saying yesterday in The Star today.

The AG’s Series 1 Report had highlighted that around RM61.55 million was lost in two marinas built under the previous administration. One in Kuala Kedah, completed in 2003, and Pulau Mentagor in Perak, completed in 2010, have ended up as white elephants since their completion.

Others in question are marinas in Muar, Johor and Tanjong City Marina in Penang. Serious structural faults have led to their operations being halted.
