PUTRAJAYA: Applauding the Federal Territories as a dynamic and modern region, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin today called for continuous improvement to the quality of life in the area and in the provision of economic opportunities to the people.

Tuanku Mizan said Kuala Lumpur city dwellers for instance, deserved quality services from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall in terms of security, cleanliness, housing, transportation and economic opportunities befitting the capital city's status as a modern and competitive metropolis on par with other cities in the
world.

"The same goes to the people in Labuan and Putrajaya. I hope that Labuan will enjoy development in line with its status as an offshore financial centre," he said at an investiture ceremony in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day at Balairong Seri, Istana Melawati, here today.

Present were Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Tuanku Mizan acknowledged the quality of infrastructure in Putrajaya, saying it was of world standard, but urged Putrajaya Corporation to focus on
maintenance and continuous improvement of the facilities in line with its status as the nation's administrative capital.

Tuanku Mizan also called on public officials to not to rest on their laurels despite the status achieved by Putrajaya but to continue to carry out improvement, particularly in terms of public transportation, public utilities, housing as well as in the quality of the environment.

He also expressed the hope that more arts and cultural as well as tourism and recreational activities be held in Putrajaya to make it a vibrant and lively place.

He said it was the responsibility of all, irrespective of their race, religion and economic backgrounds, to help the government in preserving racial and religious harmony in the Federal Territories.

"The Federal Territories, especially Kuala Lumpur, have been the valley of opportunities for all races to make a better living for themselves and their families," he said.

Kuala Lumpur, he said, was a city for all who were willing to work hard to achieve success.
