PORT DICKSON: The RM964 million International Maritime Gateway tourist project in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, is expected to be completed within three years. The project is likely to generate a gross development value of RM2.2 billion.

“It does not involve reclamation works. The project is already underway in stages and we have appointed a contractor for the excavation job.

“Although the project is scheduled for completion in three years, we will finish it as soon as possible.

“It’s a tourist-based service industry project,” Maritime International Gateway Sdn Bhd managing director Mohd Azman Ahmad told reporters at the launch of the initial works for the project covering over 5.97ha.

He said the project will maintain the natural environment and heritage with modern features.

Azman said the project site has been gazetted by the Negri Sembilan government as a duty-free zone to lure tourists.

“Facilities in the project will include a hotel and apartment resort, the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex, trade centre, duty-free mall, marina, as well as a specialist medical centre,” he added.

The project has been endorsed by the Public-Private Sector Partnership Unit and the Ministry of Tourism, said Azman.

“Once completed, the project will transform Port Dickson’s landscape into a premier international tourism centre offering business opportunities to 1,800 traders and jobs to 3,000 people,” he said. — Bernama
