KUALA LUMPUR (March 11): Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah called for the government to continue the fight against corruption as the menace burdens the people and destroys the foundation of a country.

During the King's Royal Address at the Dewan Rakyat here today, His Majesty said integrity and noble values should be upheld in the nation's pursuit for development. For this, he commended the government for proposing the National Anti-Corruption Plan.

"We express our appreciation for the efforts of the government in introducing the National Anti-Corruption Plan and laws that will strengthen governance, which will contribute towards improving the country's ranking in the Corruption Perceptions Index," he said.

His Majesty also highlighted the importance of upholding the rule of law in order to gain the trust and confidence of the people.

"The people today not only want development but also a clean, transparent and accountable government that upholds the rule of law, in order to spur the nation to greater heights.

"They also want the government to listen to their views and aspirations. As such, it is essential for leaders to consider these demands when formulating policies and programmes," he said.  — theedgemarkets.com
