KUALA LUMPUR (July 17): Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pictured) has denied offering Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal the post of deputy prime minister (DPM).

“I would like to stress that I have never offered the deputy prime minister position to him in March after I became the Prime Minister, as alleged,” Muhyiddin said in a statement today.

Muhyiddin was referring to a statement Shafie made in an interview with news portal MalaysiaKini, in which Shafie said he believed Muhyiddin was prepared to offer him the DPM post, in return for Warisan's support to strengthen Perikatan Nasional.

Pointing to the part where Shafie said, “He (Muhyiddin) did not mention it, but I know about that” during the interview, Muhyiddin said it was not true.

"That statement was purely his assumption," Muhyiddin added.
