KUALA LUMPUR: 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) has appointed an international team in partnership with local planners to create the master plan for Bandar Malaysia at the Sungai Besi airport in Kuala Lumpur.

The team is led by internationally acclaimed master planner Broadway Malyan Ltd (BM) supported by world class design and engineering teams from Arup Jururunding Sdn Bhd and Sinclair Knight Merz Pty Ltd.

The team will also be collaborating with local planner Arah Rancang Sdn Bhd (AR).

“The winning design best represents 1MDB’s vision and fundamentals for the developments of Bandar Malaysia,” said 1MDB Real Estate Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Azmar Talib in a statement.

He added that BM and AR’s concept master plan provides a strong foundation for the next stage, which is to further develop Bandar Malaysia into the benchmark for sustainability and liveability in the region.

The development of Bandar Malaysia is in line with the national vision of making Kuala Lumpur one of the 20 most liveable city in the world by 2020.
Spanning over 196ha, Bandar Malaysia is envisioned to combine a vibrant mixed use community with a commercial district to foster creativity and innovation. It is set to become an international destination for culture and the arts showcasing Malaysia’s diverse culture.

“As part of 1MDB’s commitment towards providing affordable housing, Bandar Malaysia aims to be the yardstick for sustainable and affordable urban housing within Malaysia,” said Azmar.

The winning team was chosen by a panel of local and international experts in real estate and urban planning an. They were selected from six finalists based on their concept proposal which captures the essence of 1MDB’s vision and commitment for mixed use developments.

The appointment is the culmination of a comprehensive multistage international master plan competition organised by the Malaysian Institute of Planners.
