PETALING JAYA: Property developer LBS Bina Group Bhd is supporting environmental non-profit organisation EcoKnights’ Anugerah Hijau this year as the main sponsors for the green space category.

An annual environmental outreach programme organised by EcoKnights, Anugerah Hijau is running for the fifth year. It has three main categories: green space, green film and green fashion.

LBS managing director Datuk Lim Hock Seng said the developer has noticed the work EcoKnights is doing to promote sustainability and environmental awareness, especially among youths.

“We decided to sponsor the green space category with the aim of encouraging students to share and develop their innovative ideas for environmental-friendly recreational spaces.”

EcoKnights president and co-founder Yasmin Rasyid hopes that this year, more youths will “put on their creative caps and explore outside the box in providing positive solutions or ‘call for actions’ in their environmental issue of concern”.

Anugerah Hijau’s green space category challenges participants to design recreational areas in townships by incorporating recycled or “up-cycled” materials into their creations.

The green space category is open for students aged between 18 and 29 years from schools or institutions of higher learning nationwide.

Participation is open for multiple submissions as individuals or in groups of three.

Besides a cash prize and a trophy, the winner also stands a chance to have the winning design featured in an LBS township. LBS will also arrange a three-month internship for the winner at an architectural firm.

“Through our involvement with this competition, we are eager to inspire and share our passion in responsible development with these youths who are the nation’s future leaders,” said Lim. “I look forward to seeing many unique and original ideas from our very creative youths.”

The closing date for submissions is May 19. Ten finalists will be shortlisted and will be required to attend a workshop to improve their understanding on sustainability and how to incorporate its essence into their proposals.

Judges and mentors for the green space category include Justin Santiago (JS Designs), Serina Hijjas (Malaysian Institute of Architects),

Tengku Chanela Jamidah (WeAreUltra.com) and local celebrity Daphne Iking.
