PETALING JAYA: The Wharf Hoarding Design Competition, organised by Bolton Bhd at its Taman Tasik Prima Puchong township, attracted more than 30 entries from art and design colleges and universities in Malaysia, with the champion coming from One Academy.

The One Academy's "Design Ninja" received a cash prize of RM5,000, an iPad for each member and a trophy. "Warrior" from Saito College finished second and walked away with a RM3,000 cash prize and a trophy, "The A-Team" representing Taylor's University won third place with a RM2,000 cash prize, "Perfect Priority" from UiTM finished fourth with a cash prize of RM1,000, whilst "Artbreaker" from KBU International College won fifth place with a cash prize of RM500.

In a press release, Bolton said that some 14 teams — made up of five participants each from Sunway University, Taylor's University, Universiti Teknologi MARA, KBU International College, UCSI University, The One Academy, Saito College and PJ College of Art and Design — participated in The Wharf Hoarding Design Competition, which took place at the actual site of The Wharf.

The Wharf Hoarding Design Competition required the participating teams to create and paint a design that would best reflect the essence of The Wharf based on the theme of "Dream It, Build It, Live It". The winning design will also be used to adorn the main road perimeter hoarding of The Wharf project site throughout the construction period.

Selangor State Government EXCO member Teresa Kok, the guest of honour, presented the prizes to the winners.

Bolton executive director Chan Wing Kwong said that the objective of the competition is to provide a platform for promoting art and showcasing young creative talents.

"I cannot think of a better way to liven up the area while at the same time generating a buzz in the community by turning something as mundane as a perimeter hoarding into a work of art. The hoarding may even become a landmark of sorts thanks to this creative masterpiece," Chan added.

The Wharf is Taman Tasik Prima's lakefront commercial development offering a mix of residential, business, retail and leisure centre nestled around a 200-acre lake and is to be completed by 2015.

Bolton first unveiled The Wharf development in August 2010 and the first component released for sale was BizWalk — 32 blocks of 3-storey boutique showroom stratified offices, with prices ranging from RM2.2 million to RM3.8 million — which was completely sold out.

The Wharf Residence, which comprises of 1,002 units housed within three blocks of 33-storey towers, is now open for registration. Sizes range between 818 sq ft and 1,125 sq ft, while prices for the units start from RM280,000.
