KUALA LUMPUR (July 11): Datuk Nawawi Ahmad has said that he will resign as chairman of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) by the end of this month, reported Bernama yesterday.

Nawawi said he was stepping down to make way for the appointment of a new chairman by the new Pakatan Harapan administration in Putrajaya.

He said his appointment was in accordance with the political policy of the Barisan Nasional government which fell from power after GE14.

"Let me make way for the government under Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) to appoint someone who can lead KTMB," Bernama reported him as saying at the KTMB Aidilfitri celebrations here yesterday.

He explained that his tenure was actually due to end in February 2020 after his service was extended for six years from February 2014.
