KUALA LUMPUR (June 05): What do property developers do with all the furniture and decorative items in their show units? SkyWorld Development Group has decided to hold a charity auction to sell furniture and other items in its show units under its #Bid4Good charity initiative. The auction is possibly the first of its kind in Malaysia.

Datuk Ng Thien Phing, founder and group MD of SkyWorld Development Group, told Edgeprop.com that the charity drive is in line with the company’s “transforming the city” motto and that the idea of has come from younger staff in the company.

“Before this, the items went into warehouses or were given to staff, [instead, we thought] why don’t we do something good for the public and the community?” he said.

The event is expected to create a win-win situation for all parties, as the bidders could potentially purchase items at a price lower than market, whereas the needy could benefit from the funds raised.

The auction will take place on June 30 at SkyWorld Gallery Bukit Jalil. Items to be auctioned will come from two show units of two property projects namely SkyLuxe and Sky Awani 3, among which include around 85 large items (such as furniture) and over 100 smaller decorative items.

All items will be tagged with a reserve price that is 50% to 70% lower than the original price.  A list of the items will be sent to the registered bidders around June 10.

“The event is open to our staff, purchasers, business associates and the general public, anybody can come,” Ng added. To date, around 70 SkyWorld staff and business associates have registered as bidders.

Bidders may visit SkyWorld’s property gallery on the auction day to view the furniture and appliances such as sofa, bed, dining tables, dining chairs, refrigerators and so on.

All funds raised in the event will be donated to those in need. As a part of its CSR initiatives, SkyWorld will pledge to match the amount raised from the auction to double up the funds to be channelled to the needy.

“We do not have a budget [limit] for this, whatever the amount raised by the auction is, we will top up another 100%,” Ng said.

While the company has yet to identify the beneficiary charity homes for now, a finale will be held in July as a conclusion to this event and beneficiaries will be invited to the event. Those interested could register at SkyWorld’s website.
