KUALA LUMPUR (April 24): The number of active cases in Kuala Lumpur fell further to 346 cases as of noon yesterday from 432 on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Based on the MoH’s statistics, most of the active cases were in the Lembah Pantai district, where there were 210 active cases and 670 cumulative infections.

There were 29 new infections confirmed in Kuala Lumpur as of yesterday, bringing the federal territory’s tally to 1,066 — the second highest among all states and federal territories after Selangor. Indeed, about 19% of Covid-19 infections were in the capital city.

Selangor Mansion, part of the Lembah Pantai district, recorded 22 new positive Covid-9 cases, while seven new cases had been detected in the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market as of yesterday.

In KL downtown areas, Menara City One recorded 51 positive cases with one death, followed by Selangor Mansion with 107 positive cases, Malayan Mansion four cases and Masjid India three cases.

For the other three health districts in Kuala Lumpur, Kepong’s active cases were at 56 versus 160 accumulative confirmed infections, followed by Titiwangsa's 46 active cases versus 141 confirmed infections, while Cheras had 34 active cases versus 95 confirmed infections.

Nationwide, there were 1,966 active cases — the lowest since March 27 (1,876 active cases) — compared with the total infection number of 5,603 as of noon yesterday.

The number of active cases is derived from subtracting the number of deaths and recovered cases from the cumulative figure of infected individuals.

The MoH’s statistics show other red zones with more than 100 active cases in the country included Kuching in Sarawak (196 cases) and Seremban in Negeri Sembilan (109 cases).

There were eight red zones with less than 100 active cases, namely Hulu Langat with 88 cases, Kluang 86 cases, Petaling 81, Johor Baru 77, Kuantan 67, Kota Samarahan 65, Melaka Tengah 56 and Klang 44 cases.

So far, there were 70 health districts with one to 40 cases (yellow zones), while 65 were green zones in which the health districts had zero active cases.

Yesterday, health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Perlis had become the first state to be declared a green zone state after not recording any new Covid-19 cases for more than two weeks.
