KUALA LUMPUR (July 16): Three new Covid-19 cases were reported by the Ministry of Health today, raising the total number of infected patients nationwide slightly to 8,737 with 77 active cases.

In a briefing today, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the three cases, two were local transmissions involving non-citizens in Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak.

In Kuala Lumpur, one case was detected through tests at the Jalan Duta immigration detention centre before the patient was transferred to another detention centre.

Meanwhile, one case was found through a workplace screening in Sarawak.

He said the lone imported case involved a Malaysian who was infected from abroad.

At present, three Covid-19 patients are in intensive care units, with one requiring breathing assistance.
