KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 13): The construction industry is expected to record a growth of 10.5% this year despite the current economic uncertainties, according to Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) president Mohd Zulhemlee An.

Speaking at a press conference following the opening ceremony of the 16th International Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition, Malaysia (ARCHIDEX 15) today, he noted that this year will be the fourth consecutive year the construction industry recorded double digit growth.

“The construction industry has proven to be one of the more resilient industries in Malaysia, which has managed to survive several economic downturns over the past two decades,” he added.

ARCHIDEX 15 was officiated by president of Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia Datuk Professor Dr Amer Hamzah Mohd Yunus.

The exhibition is being held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Aug 12 to 15. It has attracted 550 local and international companies from 19 countries taking 1,300 booths. Some 34,000 participants and visitors are expected at the exhibition this year.
