Mercato's third outlet launched in Penang

GEORGE TOWN (Nov 13): Premium grocery store, Mercato has expanded its footprint in the country with the opening of its third outlet in Gurney Plaza here today.

Operated under GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (GCH) since 2001, Mercato has listed over 2,000 local and imported products on their shelves, including Wagyu beef, fresh herb pots and wines.

GCH regional manager John Gilbert told Bernama that after opening two outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Penang was selected as their next destination to cater for more and different types of potential customers in the state, especially towards the expatriates.

A fair portion of the expatriates in the country he said, comprised of Penang’s population and they were more confident in purchasing products from hypermarkets and supermarket chains operated by GCH such as Giant, Cold Storage and Jasons Food Hall.

“We really want to cater (to) them and take care of them as they have been with us for the past 45 years (GCH), so this is part of the plan that we want (to launch the outlet here in Penang) and bring more of them to us,” he said.

He added that Mercato is also on the lookout for potential areas in the country to open more outlets in the future.
