BEIJING: Average housing inflation in 70 major Chinese cities dipped to 3.5% in September from a year earlier, down from August's 4.1%, according to Reuters calculations using official data published on Tuesday, Oct 18.

Prices of new homes, including state-subsidized units, rose 1.8% in Beijing in September from a year earlier, a touch lower than the 1.9% annual rise in August, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

In Shanghai, new home prices climbed 3.1% in the year to September, compared with an increase of 2.8% in August.

Since early 2011, the agency has stopped publishing an average national home price index. — Reuters
