KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Kiara Properties Sdn Bhd (BKP) group chairman Datuk Alan Tong Kok Mau was conferred the National Real Estate Leadership Award from the Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) for his contribution to the local property scene.
The award recognises Tong's 50 years invested into the industry — his transformation of rubber estates in part of Segambut into high-rise enclave Mont'Kiara earned him the nickname Condominium King — as well as his promotion of Malaysian real estate via his work in the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), where he is currently honourary world president and chairman of its Asia-Pacific regional secretariat executive committee and board.
"It is important to have a set of conduct and values to guide our daily interactions with our customers, business partners and employees besides meeting their needs and expectations," he said in his acceptance speech after receiving the award from former Minister of International Trade and Industry Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz during MIEA's 34th annual dinner and national real estate awards night.
"At BKP, we have four core values — quality, innovation, caring and integrity — to guide and help us to make the right decision. We stress the importance of conducting ourselves and doing business with integrity as the most important attribute to embrace," he added.
Tong had founded the Sunrise group in 1968, which spearheaded the development of Mont'Kiara.
The group is now a part of UEM Land Holdings Bhd following a RM1.4 billion takeover deal that was concluded earlier this year.
Past winners of the leadership award include real estate services agency Rahim & Co Sdn Bhd founder Datuk Abdul Rahim Rahman and the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents' first president Datuk Ravindra Dass.
