CYBERJAYA: The landowner of Cyberjaya, Cyberview Sdn Bhd, plans to invest RM58 million over the next two years to expand its district cooling system, said managing director Datuk Redza Rafiq.

Cyberview is expanding its district cooling system through wholly owned subsidiary Pendinginan Megajana Sdn Bhd as an initiative to lower costs in Cyberjaya through energy savings and to remain competitive, while preserving the environment.

“We plan to cool most of the new buildings in Cyberjaya in two years. Currently, more than 50% of buildings in Cyberjaya have adopted the cooling system,” he told reporters during Cyberjaya’s annual media briefing here on Nov 5.

He said in terms of energy savings, district cooling can reduce electricity usage by more than 65% compared with traditional air condition systems.

Redza said the company has submitted a strategic plan and a green roadmap to the government for the implementation of the green initiatives for Budget 2010 in Cyberjaya and the feedback on the matter appears to be positive.

He added that this augurs well for Cyberjaya as there was a significant 70% growth in the number of companies choosing the cybercity as their preferred location since 2006.

Redza said the company is also constructing an enterprise space called SME 3 that is situated next to Internexia College.

He said Cyberview is investing RM12 million into the building and expects it to be completed by the first quarter of 2010.

He added the building, which has a gross floor of 100,000 sq ft, could accommodate at least 20 companies.
