KUALA LUMPUR: The rainy Saturday morning did not deter readers of Malaysia’s business and investment weekly The Edge Malaysia from attending The Edge Investment Forum on Real Estate 2010 on April 10.

More than 500 participants attended the half day forum at the Sime Darby Convention Center in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, for the forum themed, “To buy or not to buy: Where to put your money?” organised exclusively for The Edge readers. It was the fourth such forum organised by the business weekly and presented by UOB Malaysia.

The Edge Editor-in-Chief Ho Kay Tat in his opening remarks reminded participants of the property market slowdown in Malaysia during the same period last year and one year later, it is on its road to recovery.

The first speaker CB Richard Ellis (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd managing director Allan Soo, gave his take on Malaysian property market outlook this year, followed by director of Ho Chin Soon Research Sdn Bhd who spoke on value creation in property investments focusing on certain locations in the Klang Valley.

Property, REITs or property stocks’ was the topic for the panel discussion between niche developer Bukit Kiara Properties Sdn Bhd group managing director NK Tong, Hall & Chadwick Asia Sdn Bhd chairman Kumar Tharmalingam and ECM Libra Capital Sdn Bhd head of research Bernard Ching.

One of the participants, real estate negotiator Koo, told theedgeproperty.com that this was his third time attending the forum. “I find it very informative, especially the presentation by Mr Ho (Chin Soon). It was very relevant and most interesting to me,” he said.

Another attendee said she is currently an investor in property stocks and it was her first time attending the forum. “I think the speakers were knowledgeable and informative,” she said.

Participants also took some time checking out the latest products at the booths of UOB Malaysia, Sunway City Bhd and The Haven Sdn Bhd. Twelve lucky participants also took home Ho Chin Soon research maps worth RM2,000 each via a lucky draw.
