Harbour Mall begins operations in Sandakan

SANDAKAN (Sabah) July 16, 2012: Sandakan's first modern lifestyle mall dubbed Harbour Mall opened its doors for business on July16, 2012.

Harbour Mall, part of the award-winning urban renewal project Sandakan Harbour Square, commands a gross development value (GDV) of RM510 million and is the first air-conditioned modern lifestyle mall that offers shopping, dining and leisure under one roof.

According to Datuk James Wong, Sandakan Municipal Council president, the mall has provided a social rejuvenation to Sandakan.

"The Sandakan Harbour Square project as a whole has provided social rejuvenation to Sabah's second largest city, Sandakan, by creating a lot of employment and business opportunities," he said. "Now with the opening of Harbour Mall will definitely complement Sandakan's position as a famous eco-tourism destination in the region."

The mall is developed through a joint venture between ICSD Ventures Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of London-listed Aseana Properties Ltd) and the Sandakan Municipal Council and is managed by Ireka Development Management Sdn Bhd.

Harbour Mall is located in Sandakan's central business district (CBD) fronting the coastal shores of Sandakan Bay. One of the mall's anchor tenants include Parkwell Department Store and Supermarket, a successful department store chain in East Malaysia. The Selera Sandakan Food Court occupies 11,000 sq ft of space while an entertainment and games area takes up 6,000 sq ft. The mall also offers 978 covered parking bays and valet service.

Other brands include McDonald's, Levi's, Gintell, GNC, The Body Shop, Tomei Gold & Jewellery, Aza Jewelleries, Guardian, Watsons, SN Mutiara, SOG, Jeff Eyewear Space, Bazaar Street, Cars International , Peace Collection, Frico and Cool City.

According to Lai Voon Hon, managing director of ICSD Ventures Sdn Bhd, he has confidence the mall will be the pride and joy for the locals.
