Johor Premium Outlets to open in November with more than 80 stores

JOHOR: Johor Premium Outlets, South East Asia’s first Premium Outlet Center is set to open on schedule in November with more than 80 stores.

It is the 70th outlet center in the Premium Outlets portfolio  - one of the world’s largest collection of upscale outlet centres. Premium Outlets and Premium Outlet Shopping are registered trademarks of Simon Property Group.

The project is being developed by Genting Simon Sdn Bhd a joint venture between Genting Berhad and Simon Property Group.

The 330,000 sq ft centre in Johor will feature more than 80 upscale outlet stores offering savings of 25% to 65%.

Some of the brands to be featured include A|X Armani Exchange, Burberry, Canali, Coach, DKNY, Giorgio Armani, Gap Outlet, Lacoste, Tumi, Michael Kors, Levi’s and Switch Watch Gallery.

“In addition to creating a new market segment in tourism - upscale outlet shopping - there will be substantial economic linkages to the local economy as well,” said Datuk Justin Leong, Director of Genting Simon in a statement on Sept 7.

Announced in August 2010 as a Tourism NKEA under the Economic Transformation Program (ETP), the project in Iskandar Malaysia is expected to create more than 3,000 job opportunities. A two-day job fair will be held on Sept 11 and 12 to recruit positions for over 30 stores at the outlet  centre.
