KUALA LUMPUR: The Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia says it is ready to build 100,000 units of affordable homes costing below RM150,00 each in the Klang Valley over the next five years.

Its president Syed Ali Al Attas said the chamber has among its members experienced Class A contractors, architects and engineers who are ready at any time to develop such projects.

"An estimated 404.6ha government land is still available in the Klang Valley to be developed for the purpose," he told reporters on Wednesday, Oct 5.

Syed Ali said the chamber is prepared to build the houses at cost to enable medium-income earners residing in major towns to own houses.

"It is high time for the government to consider helping this group to have their own houses. Give us the land and our members will deliver the projects at cost price," he said.

Syed Ali said the chamber was prepared to develop the projects not just in the Klang Valley but also in main towns in other states.

"In Johor alone, there are 4,046ha of government land that can be developed for such a purpose," he said, adding that the chamber has the expertise to build service apartments, offering 10-year free maintenance.

"The free service is to give housebuyers breathing space as after the 10-year period they will definitely have good and stable income.

"The chamber will also ensure the buyers don't sell off their houses within the 10-year period," he added. — Bernama
