IPOH: Residents staying in flats and housing estates in the city here have been asked to form residents' associations to maintain the cleanliness and security of their respective areas.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Roshidi Hashim said on Dec 28 residents' associations were capable of motivating residents to conserve the environment, maintain cleanliness and nurture civic consciousness.

"Let us not leave it to the Ipoh City Council (MBI) alone to clear the garbage and maintain cleanliness as such matters were also the responsibility of all Ipoh residents.

"Everyone must play their role in keeping the environment clean in order to turn Ipoh into a dream city," he said at a gathering with the people of Ipoh Old Town and the giving of aid to the poor, here today.

Roshidi said the objective of turning Ipoh into a dream city would not be achieved if the city dwellers did not change their attitude especially in terms of garbage disposal.--Bernama
