From mechanical engineering to property development

PETALING JAYA (Aug 29): Simas-D Sdn Bhd managing director Ng Leong Hooi has built thousands of homes with his partners and team. Though he has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, building homes was not his initial passion. It was to build planes.

Despite not fulfilling his dream of being an aviation engineer, Ng stayed positive and applied his knowledge in mechanical engineering to build homes for others.

When Ng felt being just a contractor for residential projects was not enough, he established a property development company – Simas-D –in 2008, together with his three friends, Yap Toong Kooi, Simon Yap and Denn Gan.

As a boutique developer, they started by developing pocket-sized terraced houses in Puchong namely Aman Sara, a three-phase development that was completed in 2012.

They are now moving on to another challenge – their first high-rise residential project – The Armanna in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.

The Armanna is the first GreenRE building in Shah Alam south, which has a gross development value (GDV) of RM96 million.

Being a boutique developer, Simas-D is not eager to expand quickly. The company will take small but steady steps to success.
