SHAH ALAM: State Housing, Building Management and Squatters Committee chairman Iskandar Abdul Samad said 12,009 low-cost houses are under construction in Selangor.

"Some 9,465 low-cost houses have been approved for construction and must be completed in two years," he told reporters after the State Executive Council (Exco) meeting here on Wednesday, Sept 28.

He said there was still demand for low cost housing where 15,545 had been built with 31,081 applicants on the waiting list.

"The State Government has decided that those eligible should be given the opportunity to buy low-cost houses," he added.

Those interested in buying low-cost houses can contact Selangor Housing and Property Board at 03-5544 7079.

Iskandar said they must be Malaysian citizens above 18 years, residing in Selangor, and with household income not exceeding RM2,500 per month.

One application is only allowed for one family and the applicant must not own a house via government or private sector projects.

He urged those offered low-cost houses to accept them or they  will be offered to other applicants and their names removed from the waiting list. — Bernama
