PUTRAJAYA: Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd is planning to start construction a commercial project adjacent to Alamanda shopping complex in Precinct 1, Putrajaya sometime next year, said chief executive officer Datuk Azlan Abdul Karim.

Azlan said the company plans to build “a big box retail area” that is designed for retailers of home furnishing and electrical goods.

“I would say it would start in a year’s time. At the moment, it is still at the concept stage. We have to submit plans and other necessary things and it would take one year,” he said after the signing ceremony between Putrajaya Holdings and Nexus World-School on Oct 27.

Azlan said the company has awarded a contract worth RM147.36 million to Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd to build a 16-storey three-star hotel and one block of 11-storey office tower, also in Precinct 1 of Putrajaya.

The project is expected to be completed by 2012 and targeted at the masses.

“We own the hotel but we will get an operator to manage it. We are having discussions with a few interested parties but we haven’t decided yet [on who the operator would be],” he said.

Meanwhile, international school, Nexus World-School plans to invest RM10 million to build a boarding house within its compound.

Nexus World-School is the first and only international school in Putrajaya, offering early years, primary and secondary curriculums. The school opened its doors to the first batch of primary learners in September 2008.

The construction is expected to kick off next year and scheduled for completion by August 2011.

Principal of Nexus World-School, Dr Stuart Martin said the school is expecting to attract international learners from the region to its boarding house, which has the capacity to house 140 boarders.

Currently, the international school accommodates 275 students.
