KUALA LUMPUR: The recent opening of the newly completed Jalan Bangsar/Jalan Travers flyover near Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur has improved traffic flow along Jalan Travers, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.

Speaking to the media after officiating the opening of the flyover on Friday, Aug 6, he noted that the standard of the traffic flow along Jalan Travers is touching grade A from the previous grade F, citing an ongoing traffic network consultation research.

"The flyover was opened to traffic on July 29... the traffic has been smooth and much of the traffic congestion there has been resolved," he added.

The three-lane 600m flyover, which allows motorists to bypass the traffic light junction between Jalan Travers and Jalan Bangsar, costs RM34.6 million. It was built under Package 1 of a RM110-million traffic dispersal system to ease congestion in Brickfields and Kuala Lumpur Sentral allocated in the government's second stimulus package.

The project's main contractor Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) chief executive Mohamed Razeek Hussain said all the packages are scheduled for completion in 14 months.

Package 2 involves the construction of a flyover from KL Sentral to Jalan Damansara and Lebuhraya Mahameru, and is now more than 30% complete. It is scheduled for completion by 1Q2011.
