KOTA BARU: About 300 people from 60 families at Section 10 Lorong Gajah Mati here staged a peaceful gathering to oppose the state government's land acquisition there for implementation of the Sungai Kelantan development project.

They claimed that the land acquisition was not done in accordance with procedures under the Land Acquisition Act 1960.
One of the residents, Rahimi Mohammad, 44, who claimed to represent the group, said they were not against the implementation of the proposed project, but the land acquisition process carried out by the Kota Baru Land and
District Office.

"The owners of land involved in the proposed project want the relevant authorities to investigate the Kota Baru Land and District Office, the Kota Baru Municipal Council and Syarikat K.D.Howa Seng for not adhering to the procedures under the Land Acquisition Act 1960," he added. - Bernama
