KUALA LUMPUR (Mar 15): An allocation of RM3.26 million has been approved to facilitate upgrading and widening works on Jalan Pantai Permai in Pantai Dalam, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.

He said the process, which begins today and is expected to be completed in August, is carried out by the government through the Kuala Lumpur City Hall after local residents voiced their woes on frequent traffic congestion in the area.

"Apart from upgrading and widening of the road to two lanes each way, we are also providing 200 lots (100 lots each side) of parking by the roadside. This way there will be more proper parking available," he told reporters after a groundbreaking ceremony, here on Thursday.

The upgrades are also part of an ongoing process which started after the relocation of hawkers along Jalan Bukit Angkasa to the Pantai Bazaria Hawker Centre in Pantai Dalam.

"Negotiations were carried out and I am confident that most of them will move, hopefully this issue will not be politicised or else it will never be resolved," he added.

Other improvements expected in the area include upgrading of drains, creating pedestrian walkways, anti-climb fencing, lighting, landscaping and the relocation of utilities. — Bernama
