KUANTAN: The Fire and Rescue Department is building 60 more fire stations nationwide in addition to the existing 254 stations, its director-general, Datuk Hamzah Abu Bakar said on Friday, May 21.

He said there were also plans to upgrade facilities at the stations under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

Last year, the department was allocated RM1.5 billion for development, he told reporters after presenting excellent service awards and medals to firemen and staff of the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department here.

In another development, Hamzah said the department would impose surcharge on firemen who were found negligent in maintaining the office assets and equipments.

This included loss of items belonging to the department, he added.

Earlier, Hamzah also handed over three fire engines, five four-wheel utility vehicles and five boats to the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department. -- Bernama
