Guan Eng: Govt does not intend to default on any debt obligations entered into by 1MDB

"We will make payment as contracted by the previous government, I have always stressed that Malaysia will honour its debt obligations. Malaysia will not be in default, so we want to make the payments, especially this tranche, 1MDB Energy (Langat) Ltd interest payment of US$50.3 million or equivalent to RM208.8 million, we already paid," he said.

"The selldown by foreign investors last week was not because of one or two companies or one or two projects, that couldn't be an effect so huge. We all know that global equity markets are affected by the trade war between the US and China and other external factors," he said.

The finance minister promises an update on the present situation.

Najib told reporters at the Parliament lobby here: "I don't want to elaborate on that."

Najib said the Singapore government had indicated to him when he was prime minister that  Singapore did not intend to invest money to replace the Causeway Link, since the bridge was still usable. 

“This is what Tun wants, Crooked Bridge will only reach half of the Causeway Link; we won’t touch the Singapore part, so that the water can flow there, and ships can sail through Tebrau Straits, the water will be cleaner, it will help beautify Johor Bahru.”

Yeo Bee Yin urged the main exporters of plastic waste into Malaysia, which are mainly developed nations, to take care of their own plastic waste and not assume Southeast Asia nations, including Malaysia, as their waste dumpster.

"Since China bannned the import of plastic waste, developed countries have diverted their waste export destination to Southeast Asia, including Malaysia…”
